The Hepatitis B Foundation introduces an updated mission statement and tagline for World Hepatitis Day, the birthday of Baruch S. Blumberg
Doylestown, Pa., July 15, 2026 – With World Hepatitis Day coming later this month, the Hepatitis B Foundation today is introducing an updated mission statement and new tagline intended to better reflect the expanded work being done by the organization’s staff in liver disease broadly, not only hepatitis B, with a global reach.
Paired with the organization’s logo, the new tagline is, “A World Free of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis D and Liver Cancer.”
The new mission statement is one sentence: “The Hepatitis B Foundation is a nonprofit organization working around the world to improve the lives of those affected by hepatitis B, hepatitis D and liver cancer; drive prevention, diagnosis and treatment and accelerate scientific research to achieve cures.”
Every year on July 28, people worldwide celebrate World Hepatitis Day in honor of Baruch S. Blumberg’s birthday. A brilliant scientist and global health pioneer, Dr. Blumberg was a driving force in the Hepatitis B Foundation’s development from its launch in 1998. Dr. Blumberg received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1976, and the Hepatitis B Foundation named its research arm the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute in his honor.
“We’re extremely proud that the Hepatitis B Foundation has been able to grow our hepatitis delta and liver cancer programs and expand our global reach in recent years, and our new mission statement reflects that progress,” Chari A. Cohen, DrPH, MPH, president of the Hepatitis B Foundation said.
For World Hepatitis Day this year, the Hepatitis B Foundation is also introducing 22 new stories in its #just B Storytelling program. Sharing video recordings from real people living with hepatitis B and liver cancer, #justB provides more than 100 stories that put a human face on these serious diseases.
And there is a new set of videos for World Hepatitis Day 2026, “Protection from Day One: Real Conversations on the Hepatitis B Vaccine,” the Foundation staff has created. In the videos, parents talk about hepatitis B and the vaccine’s vital role in protecting babies from infection.
About Hepatitis B: Hepatitis B is the most common serious liver infection in the world. It is caused by the hepatitis B virus that attacks and injures the liver. Each year more than 1 million people die from hepatitis B worldwide, even though it is preventable and treatable. Hepatitis B is a “silent epidemic” because most people do not have symptoms when they are newly or chronically infected. Thus, they can unknowingly infect others and continue the spread of hepatitis B. For people who are chronically infected but don’t have any symptoms, their livers are still being silently damaged, which can develop into serious liver diseases such as cirrhosis or liver cancer.
About the Hepatitis B Foundation: As the world’s leading hepatitis B advocacy and research organization, the Hepatitis B Foundation is one of the most active proponents of improving hepatitis B screening, prevention and treatment of the disease. We are the only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to finding a cure for hepatitis B and improving the quality of life for those affected worldwide through research, education and patient advocacy. Founded in 1991, the Hepatitis B Foundation is based in Doylestown, Pa., with staff in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
