Hepatitis D
Caused by the Hepatitis D Virus (HDV)
- Can only become infected with HDV if you already have
a hepatitis B infection.
- Transmitted through infected blood, sex, needles and
from infected women to their newborns.
- Hepatitis D co-infections cause more serious and rapid
liver damage.
- There is no effective treatment, except for a liver transplant.
- The hepatitis B vaccine can prevent a hepatitis D infection.
