Meeting History


Please note, every participant will get a ticket that allows him or her to use all public transport systems within a distance of 60 km around Heidelberg during the meeting at no charge.

Heidelberg is located in central Germany, approximately 80 km to the south of Frankfurt, and is easily accessible by rail, car or airplane.

By Plane
The closest international airport is Frankfurt Airport (Flughafen) Frankfurt Rhein-Main, 80km away and reachable in one hour.

Airport Transfers
Taxi service from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg is quite expensive. Alternative transfers include the Airport Shuttle Service from Frankfurt airport, TLS which will take you right to your Heidelberg hotel for approximately 29 Euros per person one way (as of Feb. 2005).

The Lufthansa Airport Bus at Frankfurt Airport runs between Terminal 1 to the Marriott and Crowne Plaza Hotel in Heidelberg every hour for approximately 19 Euros one way (as of Feb. 2005), and taxis are readily available from these hotels.

By Train
Germany has an excellent, very punctual rail infrastructure. You can catch the train from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg (fast connections get you there in about 50 minutes), but you will have to transfer in Mannheim to a regional train that will take about 15 minutes to finally arrive in Heidelberg. The Heidelberg main station (Hauptbahnhof) is a 10 minute tram or taxi ride to the centre of town. Click here for Train Schedules and Reservations.

By Car
Heidelberg is well served by the German autobahn (motorway/highway) infrastructure. The closest autobahns from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg are the A5 and A6. Exit off these motor ways onto the A656 and which will take you directly into the centre of Heidelberg. Plan to park in your hotel car park for the duration of your stay since you won't need your car to get around Heidelberg.

Local Bus Service
From Heidelberg’s main railway station, the “Hauptbahnhof”, Bus number 41, brings you directly to the Convention Center (Kongresshaus Stadthalle). Buses run from 05.30 a.m. to 24.00 hrs. at regular 10 minute intervals, with a journey time of approximately 20 minutes.
