Disney World

Walt Disney World® Resort

PLEASE NOTE:  During the 2011 International HBV meeting there will be free (unscheduled) time on Tuesday, October 11th after 4:30 PM.  Although there are a variety of entertainment options in Orlando, particularly the Disney World Resort area, there are two reduced cost attractions that are available for meeting participants to consider.

Disney World Theme Parks   Complimentary bus transportation is provided from the meeting venue to each of the four Disney World theme parks every 30 minutes.  Because October is the tourist off-season however, three of the parks close relatively early (Animal Kingdom, 5:00 pm; Magic Kingdom, 7:00 pm; Hollywood Studios, 7:00 pm).  However, Epcot (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/) is open until 9:00 pm, and is therefore the recommended choice.  The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is ongoing at this time of year (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/special-events/epcot-international-food-and-wine-festival/), which is a very popular event that offers a wide variety of food and beverage for purchase (food/beverage not included in park admission).  Weather permitting, the evenings at Epcot end with a fireworks-laser-water show at 9:00 pm called Illuminations: Reflections of Earth (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/entertainment/illuminations-reflections-of-earth/).

Special conference tickets that provide admission to a single park after 4:00 PM are available for purchase for $50. Visit http://www.disneyconventionear.com/RPH2011 to obtain these specially priced meeting/convention afternoon tickets for the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks. Advance tickets purchased through theweb link can be shipped to a US or international address for additional cost, or picked up at the park admission gate at no extra cost by choosing “Will Call Window” and then “Grp Win – EPCOT Center” under Shipping Options.   This web site also has options for purchasing discounted multi-day park admission tickets. These “After 4 pm” tickets are also available for purchase on-site at the conference hotel Disney Store for $52, but cannot be purchased at the park gate.

Although the Magic Kingdom closes to ticket holders at 7:00 pm on October 11, on select nights (including October 10 and 11), it reopens from 7:00 pm to midnight for a special Halloween-themed event called “Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party”.  The “After 4 pm” conference tickets and other regular park admission tickets are NOT valid for this event.  Details can be found at http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/magic-kingdom/special-events/mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party/.  Tickets are available for purchase at the above link in advance for $56.95.  Based on availability, tickets may also be purchased at the gate for $62.95, but this event is often sold-out, so advance purchase is recommended.  If you would like to visit the Magic Kingdom during the free time, we recommend that you purchase a ticket for this event rather than an “After 4 pm” ticket, as it will give you more time to enjoy the park.

Cirque du Soleil La Nouba   Located a short walk from the meeting hotel is the Downtown Disney entertainment and dining complex (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/destinations/downtown-disney/), which includes a theater for a Cirque du Soleil show known as La Nouba (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/lanouba/default.aspx).  Shows are held at both 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and tickets can be purchased in advance at https://websales.omniticket.com/wcq/.   Tickets purchased in advance can be shipped to you, printed at home, or held at the theater box office.  Prices range from $71-$109.  As with any show, tickets are subject to availability, so purchase early for the best seats.
