Dr. Gang Chen

Dr. Gang Chen earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Epidemiology at Shanghai Medical University in China. He joined Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia in 1997 as project manager of NIH-funded large international collaborative research studies on hepatitis B and liver cancer.

For the past 10 years, Dr. Chen has traveled from the U.S. twice a year to manage and direct epidemiological research projects conducted in Haimen City, China. His role includes developing and evaluating all field work protocols for the Haimen Cohort, which is the largest prospective cohort study of HBV and liver cancer in the world; translating all research materials, supervising all data collection and entry in the field; communicating with Chinese collaborators and public health officials in Haimen and Shanghai; and performing data analysis with SAS programming. Dr. Gang is currently Associate Director for Public Health at the Hepatitis B Foundation.
