The Hepatitis A Vaccine
The hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for children and adults living with chronic hepatitis B infections. This vaccine will protect them from another liver virus and help prevent additional stress to their livers.
The hepatitis A vaccine is also recommended for those who live in parts of the U.S. that have high rates of hepatitis A infections, as well as those who travel abroad to countries where hepatitis B is common (Asia, Africa, South America, Pacific Islands, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East).
Hepatitis A Infections
Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection.
It is spread through contaminated food and water
(oral-fecal route of transmission). Older persons
are more likely to have symptoms than children.
Symptoms usually occur suddenly and can include
fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal
pain, dark urine and jaundice (yellow skin and
eyes).

Blood Tests
There is a simple blood test for diagnosing hepatitis A. Most people recover without any complications and there is no chronic infection associated with hepatitis A.
